Where a deferral is not academically feasible or appropriate, instructors should offer alternative academic options, such as re-weighing remaining deliverables. QSAS Advisors will connect directly with students who make multiple exam deferral requests, either in the same course or in several courses since they may require other accommodations or supports.ĭenial of Exam Deferrals and Academic Implications Students are expected to write the deferred exam on dates and times set by the instructor. Instructors are responsible for scheduling the deferred exam date and arranging student’s exam accommodations where applicable. Instructors should assume Accessibility Services supports the student's request unless the QSAS Advisor communicates otherwise. Include course code plus date and time of exam.Students are not required to disclose personal/medical information.Confirm that you are presently experiencing exacerbated symptoms stemming from a disability or health condition.What students should include in an email requesting exam deferral: Failure to cancel and/or appear for an accommodated assessment may result in a $45 charge per missed assessment. In the rare event that you will not be attending your scheduled accommodated assessment, you must cancel the assessment in Ventusat least 24 hours in advance of the start time.Students experiencing barriers to writing their tests, quizzes, or exams are advised to email their instructor and/or faculty contact person, and to copy their Accessibility Advisor. QSAS will maintain confidentiality regarding medical documentation and disability type. QSAS will be able to provide instructor or faculty contact that the request is supported as it relates to your disability. Your instructor or faculty contact person will be responsible for deciding how to best support your request – which may involve deferring the exam but may also involve other ways of supporting the student in the moment.
